Edward Soje allegedly committed suicide ostensibly for an unpaid salary
Edward Soje who was born on the year, 1963 to the Edward family
He was hailed from Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area of
Kogi state was a grade Level 16 Officer in the State Teaching Service
Commission (TSC).He was known as a director in is duty as a civil servant.
It was identified that he committed suicide by using rope to
hang himself on a tree behind the mammy market at the maigumeri barracks,
housing the Nigeria Army Command Record in Lokoja, capital of Kogi state,
reputedly for the fear of how to maintain the family with unpaid salaries of 11
months.
It was also discovered from family sources who said that
late Soje had before the incident been going through a lot of financial
pressure due to nonpayment of his salaries by the Kogi State government. As a
way out he was said to have sold his only car and a three bedroom bungalow he
was building at Otokiti area of Lokoja at a giveaway price to meet urgent
family needs.
According to the sources Soje’s financial woe became compound
when the wife gave birth to a set of triplets through caesarian operation in a
private hospital in Abuja on October 7.
Before committing suicide he had travelled to his wife house
at Abuja to drop a suicide note. In the suicide note he left behind bore this
quotation from the Bible “Psalm 121:3- God will not suffer your foot to move:
He that keepeth you will not slumber. Amen. You and the three boys, the God
almighty keep you and prosper you, Amen. I love you.”
Late Edward Soje died at the age of 54 years, on October 17,
2017 in Lokoja. He was well missed by his friends and families. He was also
described to be a very quiet, humble and lovable human being.
