My Mission Is To Bring Back The Essence Of Music - The Professor
To members of the
public, the name Chief Fruitful Mekwunye whose stage name as a musician is
Professor, might not be a familiarly known as a musician but this does not mean
the light skinned stoutly built Delta State born is new to music.
Professor, a
scribe of Performing Musician Association, PMAN has been in music for as long
as he has lived. However, he just completed work on his first album that is
expected to drop any time soon.

Speaking about why he
took him so long to announce his musical career, Professor said he had to bury
his music dream for so long because the was not encouragement and that he was
too busy struggling to survive that following his dream was the least he could
think of.
He however believes coming out at this stage of his life aptly depict
that a dream is not until you are dead. “Music is inborn, it is a talent and
when you have the talent, it is either you actualize it earlier enough or
actualize it later.
In my own case, I was supposed to have actualized mine in
my early age but in those days, call musicians hopeless and jobless people and
even lazy people.
You rarely could see talent hunts like we have these days so
most of the dreams were buried.”
Making his debut,
‘Fruitful’ has a four track album that was coordinated, contributed to and
produced by versatile Juju singer, Yinka Best. The musical effort titled, “Ogo
Oluwa” (Glory of God) has tracks ‘Iyawo Mi Gbadura Fun Mi’, a Yoruba highlife
aimed at making family units stronger, ‘Bed Of Roses’, a R & B flavor,
‘Africa’, a Calypso soca with Reggae mix done to remind Africans of their
identity and Nigeria, a tune tailored to address ills of the country.
Professor further
revealed his mission is to return lost glory of music by ensuring he plays
songs that are message filled. He decried how people are forced to
dance to songs that have no messages because only few produce good music.
“My
mission which also is the primary objective of music is to produce songs with
messages that are also free flowing so that Nigerians and the world can enjoy
it,” he concluded.
